Two San Jose families are in shock and mourning after separate violent incidents over the weekend killed an 18-year-old new graduate and a 35-year-old mother of five. One was stabbed in East San Jose, the other shot in South San Jose.

Vincent Tran Le, who friends said turned 18 last week and graduated from Pegasus High School in San Jose on Wednesday, was found about 4 a.m. Saturday near the 1700 block of Schulte Drive, near McKee and North King roads. He was taken to San Jose’s Regional Medical Center, where he died, Officer Jose Garcia said.

35-year-old woman was found shot to death in a Mercedes-Benz on the 4000 block of Ambler Way, near Hellyer Park in South San Jose. Police have not identified her.

San Jose police are investigating whether the killings are linked, Garcia said. “We don’t know if those two are tied in, or whether one is retaliation.”

Police also are looking into a possible connection with the Saturday evening shooting. The two Saturday deaths bring the city’s number of homicides to 24. The city is on a pace to nearly triple the 20 homicides of 2010.

Police are seeking anyone with information in the latest killings. In the woman’s shooting, contact detective Sgt. Tony Mata at 408-277-5283.
