 Sunnyvale seeking person of interest in string of arson fires

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Arson investigators from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) are seeking a person of interest who was seen in the area where an arson fire was set.

Beginning in early May, Sunnyvale has experienced a series of arson fires in the central portion of the City. To date, there have been four separate incidents, resulting in 15 fires. The fires are growing in number and severity, with nine of the fires occurring during the early morning hours of September 1. One of these fires was set to an occupied vehicle, and the sleeping occupant was rescued by police just prior to the interior of the vehicle catching on fire. The fires have been to outside debris, dumpsters, and vehicles. The fires are occurring in an area bordered by Fair Oaks, Arbutus, Grand Fir and Garland.

Investigators are trying to locate a person of interest who was seen in the area the morning of the September 1 fires. The subject is described as an Hispanic male, 19-20 years of age, 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-10-inches tall, with a slender build.
